Employees' Provident Fund (EPF)

India's mandatory retirement-savings scheme, still administered under the 1952 Act with a ₹15,000/month wage ceiling for domestic employees — pending a separate Code-based scheme notification.

EPF requires matched 12% employer and employee contributions on PF wages, subject to a ₹15,000/month ceiling for most domestic employees. This “notified-but-dormant” gap means the Social Security Code is in force, but EPF still runs on the older 1952 Act machinery.

International Workers are the major exception: their PF wages are uncapped under Para 83, at 12%+12% of full salary, unless a Certificate of Coverage applies.

Why it matters now: don’t assume Code-based EPF automatically overrides the 1952 ceiling. Until a separate scheme notification lands, the old ceiling and rules still govern domestic contributions.
